South-Central Coast and Central Highlands region photo festival opens

The 21st South-Central Coast and Central Highlands region Art Photography Festival was organised in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province on July 28.

The event was co-organised by the Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists, the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee and the provincial Literature and Arts Association, aiming to offer the chance for artists to meet, exchange ideas and show their artwork to the public.

This year’s festival attracted 2,026 works by 289 photographers. After three rounds of judging, the 15 best pictures were chosen to receive awards. One gold medal went to photographer Nguyen Dang De with his work named ‘Red Sail’. Meanwhile three silver medals were presented to Vu Ngoc Hoang, Le Trong Khang and Mai Thanh Chuong.

Additionally, the organising board also presented four bronze medals and seven consolation prizes to other outstanding entries.

An exhibition was held at Quang Nam provincial cultural centre, featuring photos from the festival by photographers from ten provinces in the region, showcasing images of nature, landscapes and people following Uncle Ho’s example, as well as socio-economic development and the cultural lives of local people.

Under the framework of the festival, a photo marathon contest will be held on the subject of Quang Nam’s people and landscape. The competition allows participants only 24 hours to submit their best interpretation of the assigned theme. All submitted photos must be taken on the day of the competition, from midday on July 26 to midday on July 27. One first, two second, three third and five consolation prizes were awarded to the outstanding photos.

The 22nd South-Central and Central Highlands region Art Photography Festival 2017 will be organised in Dak Nong Province.
